A First Birthday Smash was our first session back in studio upon re-opening and it was just what we needed.
A happy little one, enjoying being in the moment and celebrating an upcoming milestone with yummy cake!
Ava took everything in stride today and was curious about the noises and songs that I was making & signing, all hidden by my face mask.
Her mom brought this beautiful fresh handmade baby’s breath floral wreath crown.
She looked like a little birthday princess.
I was told that Ava was a foodie, so I was excited to see how she’d react to a cake all to herself!
When it came time to show her.. She was ready! She wanted to drive right in.

One of the questions I receive often is how will the session go if my little one is walking.
My answer: fun (and busy 😉 )
Little ones are always so intrigued with the cake, the feeling of icing, the fact that they have it all to themselves and that it is something new – they will usually sit long enough to capture great portraits to commemorate this milestone.
Once they realize that they can get up and walk away, it’s all about encouraging them to dig in, in different ways.
Ava is a confident walker and had fun briefly poking at the cake and testing out a cake & icing pedicure.
I’m so happy to be back in studio and can’t wait to see more little faces over the Summer.
